LASTING
IMPRESSIONS
A
survey of the techniques and history of artists’ printmaking
c1490 – c1940
As
well as a past stock catalogue, Lasting Impressions is
a useful general reference and introduction to European
printmaking and how prints are made.
The
method or process of each technique is described in
detail and its history surveyed from its invention
up to the Second World War.
In
a few cases the original etching plate or engraved
woodblock accompanies the impression; even the especially
rare incidence of the survival of the actual drawing
which created a soft-ground etching plate.
Also
included are some trial proofs, touched proofs, counterprooofs
and prints with printmaking as their subject, as well
as portraits and self-portraits of printmakers. Every
item is illustrated.
