MULTIPLE PLEASURES

Multiple Pleasures, Elizabeth Harvey-LeeThat by 1500 Albrecht Dürer was the most famous living artist, and the first to achieve such an influential reputation and international impact in his own lifetime, was due not only to his creative mastery. It was through his revolutionary choice of the new printed media of woodcut and engraving by which to express himself that his images reached a multiple and distant audience; and are still available to thrill large numbers of collectors five centuries later.

Over the centuries artists’ prints have appealed on several levels and not just as original works of fine art. They have explored, expressed or illustrated the full range of the human condition, of human interests, emotions, beliefs and curiosity in the world. Familiarity has made some images iconic while others speak to individual tastes and chime resonances evoked by personal associations. I hope amongst this latest group of new acquisitions there will be items that appeal to you.
