Information about the Print
In 1950 on a visit to Paris Blaker had witnessed with pleasure similar priests.
In his Autobiography he records
"As I passed the entrance to Sacré Coeur a cadaverous priest passed me, his mouth open, his eyes turned upwards…
I painted him as I saw him, contrasted with two more jovial clerics, their skirts creating volutes beneath which their black boots skimmed happily. I have made several subsequent versions of this subject, over long periods of time ..."
