Information about the Print
The Villa Ariadne was built by Sir Arthur Evans at Knossos after his discovery of the Minoan palace, when the site was his own property. It subsequently became owned by the Greek government but continues to be used as a base for visiting scholars from the British School at Athens and other similar institutions.
During
the Second World War the German General Karl
Kreipe was living there when he was kidnapped
by Patrick Leigh Fermour.
The
garden remains as planted by Arthur Evans, the
only existing Edwardian Greek garden. |
