Printed from the same intaglio etched plate as the previous item.
The
plate was inked as for a relief print, the black
ink left on the surface of the steel plate rather
than being ‘intaglio’ wiped into the lines, and the plate printed onto dry paper; producing a design where the line reads as ‘white’ (the natural colour of the paper where it has received no ink) against a black field.
The
plate was cleaned and re-inked with brown ink
and passed through the press again, but slightly
out of register, overprinting the black and,
because of the mis-register, printing over some
of the ‘white’ lines as well, to give warmth
to the lines. |
