An impression was exhibited at Colnaghi in Etchings by Isabel Codrington, June 1933
Provenance:
The artist’s estate and by descent to her grandson.
The architectural setting would suggest a German subject, perhaps at Freiburg-im-Breisgau, as the Colnaghi exhibition included an etching of The Market, Freiburg-im-Breisgau.
When focussing on a single ‘character’ Codrington introduces narrative elements. Here the vegetable seller is having her lunch and turning to look at the artist.
As in other plates, in the
distance are small figures of adults and children. |
