Exhibited at the R.E. 1892.
Etched for the Monte Oliveto Maggiore Series of thirteen and frontispiece, illustrating the lives of the monks at this old and famous monastery in the hill-country near Siena.
The abbey was founded in 1313 by the Sienese Bernardo Tolomei, who retired to this isolated place, the property of his family, after he converted to the Benedictine order.
