Additional Information about the Print

Dodgson comments on this as a reminiscence of a scene witnessed in the Church of the Redentore, though Holroyd does not show a Palladian interior and was perhaps inspired for the architectural setting by the Venetian church of San Giovanni e Paolo which has a number of equestrian monuments to condottieri.

Provenance: by descent from the artist to his widow Lady Holroyd; to their son Michael; to Michael’s godson.
