Information about the Print
Exhibited at the R.E. 1907.
In Greek mythology, dryads were originally the spirits of oak trees (drys: ‘oak’) but the name became applied to all tree nymphs. Hamadryads are born bonded to a specific individual tree.
Provenance: by descent from the artist to his widow Lady Holroyd; to their son Michael; to Michael’s godson.
