St Botolph’s Bridge (No.2)
Comstock 56 iv/iv
253 x 200 mm

Etching, 1936-37. The plate initialled and dated. The impression signed in pencil. Final state, second edition, with the previously blank diagonal corners of the octagonal subject in the first edition etched over (at the suggestion of the American etcher John Taylor Arms) to create a rectangular image. Comstock does not specify either edition size. On laid paper, with narrow margins on three sides, presumably as printed.

Additional Information about the Print

A reprise of the 1917 subject, on a more monumental scale and to a grander architectural design, either in reverse or imagined from the opposite shore. Grigg’s last published etching, in the first state it had an etched dedication to Hilaire Belloc.
