Etching,
1936-37. The plate initialled and dated. The impression
signed in pencil. Final state, second edition,
with the previously blank diagonal corners of the
octagonal subject in the first edition etched over
(at the suggestion of the American etcher John
Taylor Arms) to create a rectangular image. Comstock
does not specify either edition size. On laid paper,
with narrow margins on three sides, presumably
as printed.

Information about the Print
A
reprise of the 1917 subject, on a more monumental
scale and to a grander architectural design,
either in reverse or imagined from the opposite
shore. Grigg’s last published etching,
in the first state it had an etched dedication
to Hilaire Belloc.
