Information about the Print
Inspired
by Palmer’s 1825 sepia ink and gum arabic
drawing Early Morning (in the Ashmolean), Boyd
imitates the mushroom-shaped tree and the long
evening shadows, but makes changes too. The rabbit
is omitted (but appears in another print) and
replaced by two birds, one with a snail on a
stone. (Palmer has two birds, but beak to beak,
in the foreground of the Ashmolean’s The
Valley with a Bright Cloud, 1925) Instead
of the small half-hidden group of people beneath
the tree, a single figure sits at work on his
laptop computer.

Palmer Legacy exhibition includes further
