Information about the Print
The portrait of Etty was accompanied by a poem by Thomas Campbell entitled “The Painter”, which concludes:
...
serenely quiet art!
By Heaven and love both taught
to lend
The milder solace to the heart,
The sacred image of a friend.
William
Etty R.A. (1787-1849) made a speciality of the
nude and was described as a painter of sheen
and sinuosity.
