Information about the Print
In 1913 Dickins published a large landscape format etching of Queen’s College,
showing the whole width of the college along the High Street to either side of the central entrance.
Stylistically
this large vertical close-up of the entrance
the Queen's College belongs to the same period
or earlier. The drawing of Queen’s College included
in Walcot’s 1912 exhibition at the Fine Art Society
'Watercolours
of Ancient Rome, London & Oxford' may relate
to this etching, rather than the landscape format
one published by Dickins.
Founded
in the 14th century, the frontage of the college
was designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor as part of
the 18th century remodelling and extension. |
