ALLART VAN EVERDINGEN
Alkmaar 1621 – 1675 Amsterdam
Everdingen spent his formative years, 1640-44, in Norway and Sweden as inspector
of mines for the Amsterdam merchant family the van Trips.
Studies
he made in these years formed the basis of
most of the paintings and etchings he made
on his return to Holland.

EUGENE ISABEY
Paris 1803 – 1886 Paris
Eugène Isabey, son of the artist Jean Baptiste, made a few experiments in lithography in the late 1820’s and in 1830 was invited to contribute to the parts series Croquis
par Divers Artistes (Sketches by various Artists), a joint venture by the publishers Rittner and Goupil in Paris and Tilt in London.
Of
the thirteen lithographs Isabey drew for
this series nearly all concerned boats and
the sea. The series was very popular and
was re-issued several times in later decades.

CHARLES WATSON R.E. Norwich
1846 – 1927
Watson took up etching probably in the late 1860’s.
Norwich
artists at the beginning of the 19th century
had been amongst those regional practitioners
who had anticipated the mid-century etching ‘revival’.
Watson
was an early member of the R.E., exhibiting
from the first exhibition in 1881. Around 1888
he moved to London.

DANIEL STASCHUS
Girreningken,
East Prussia 1872 – 1953
Staschus studied at the Academy of Arts in Königsberg 1887 to 1894, before he and his wife settled in Munich.
He
was one of the principal colour woodcut artists
in Munich at the period.

GRETA DELLEANEY A.R.E.
London 1884 – 1968 Cheltenham
Greta
Delleaney trained at Westminster
School of Art and at the R.A. Schools with
Sickert. She
was active as an etcher in London till the
1940’s,
exhibiting from 1913. After the Second World
War she moved to Cheltenham, and assisted
at Cheltenham Art School.

HAROLD JONES
Romford 1914 – 1992
Jones
worked as a farmhand before taking up art
and attending the Goldsmiths College School
of Art from 1921 and the Royal College of
Art 1924-28.
A
painter and printmaker, in the 1930’s he took up book illustration, and book design, for which he is best known.
