Information about the Print
Siena was dubbed “The City of the Virgin” in the Middle Ages.
The nine sections of the fan-shaped main piazza symbolise the Madonna’s cloak, sheltering Siena.
Exhibited at the R.E. 1903.
Provenance: by descent from the artist to his widow Lady Holroyd; to their son Michael; to Michael’s godson.
