Exhibited at the R.E. 1914.

A dramatic view of the hilltown, dominated by the Rocca Abaziali fortress. The first printing press in Italy was established in Subiaco by German monks in the church of Santa Scholastica in 1464.

Provenance: by descent from the artist to his widow Lady Holroyd; to their son Michael; to Michael’s godson.
