Della
Bella certainly recorded the resplendent
entry of the Polish Ambassador with a huge
entourage of riders when he was in Rome in
1633. The individual cavaliers in his series
of ‘Negro, Polish & Hungarian Horsemen’ may have
been drawn when Ladislav IV and escort similarly entered Paris in 1645, during
Della Bella’s residency in that city.
