Information about the Print
At this early period of his career Bloomsbury Group artist Roger Eliot Fry established his reputation as a scholar of the old masters of the Italian School, an interest Holroyd shared.
In the early 1900’s Fry taught art history at the Slade. And coincidentally, in 1905 the choice for the new Director of the National Gallery would lie between Holroyd and Fry.
Provenance: by descent from the artist to his widow Lady Holroyd; to their son Michael; to Michael’s godson.
